Made Local Charity is a registered Canadian charity (Charitable Registration #77025 8010 RR0001). Our goal is to help end child poverty in Canada.
We feel the best way our group can help is to:
a) Encourage Canadians to buy products from companies that manufacture products in Canada.
By building the economy and creating jobs in this way, it will help to reduce poverty in Canada in general, which of course includes child poverty. Furthermore, less adult poverty means fewer adult mental health issues, which means a lower risk of future poverty, which means even less future child poverty…so we get a snowball effect of wins!
Second Harvest is an amazing charity that collects food across Canada that was not able to be sold by grocery stores, restaurants, etc. They redistribute this food to food banks, who of course give this to folks who are in need (sadly, approximately 1/3 of food bank users in Canada are children). This leads to an amazing synergy: a reduced burden on the impoverished by giving them food and reduced food waste (which sustains our food supply and it’s better for the environment!).
At Made Local Charity, we feel the above approach works to directly help impoverished children immediately, while also working on a key “root cause” of poverty to make things better in the long run (i.e. giving the proverbial man a fish and teaching him how to fish).
How do we collect donations? Our primary method is via affiliate links with companies who manufacture products in Canada. Please visit our donors page for a list! From that page, you can get a discount code, and the company will match that discount in the form of a donation to Made Local Charity. In turn, we then donate to Second Harvest. Of course, we’re always happy to accept donations from the public, too – just email us via our Contact Uspage 🙂
